• Applicants from one of the countries of the SCHENGEN Area in the European Union are required to produce an identity card or a valid passport.
  • Applicants from countries outside the SCHENGEN Area are required to produce a valid passport (only).
  • No school degree required.
  • Applicants need to know how to read and write in their mother tongue.
  • Applicants should be at least 17 ½ years and less than 39 ½ years on the day they report at the information desk.
  • Applicants should produce any useful supporting documents: residence permit, driver’s licence, photocopy of family record book, certificate of marriage, certificate of divorce, birth certificate, etc…)



In order to facilitate administrative procedures, please produce the following documents when applying:

 French applicants

  • A complete birth certificate obtained over the past six months
  • JAPD (Day of call of preparation with defense) or JDC (Day defense and citizenship) certificate
  • DSS (Descriptive State and Services) service record for those applicants who served previously in the French Armed Forces.

 Foreign applicants

A complete birth certificate with filiation obtained less than six months before (ideally multilingual).


  • “Parents’ consent” handwritten and signed by both parents or the applicant’s legal guardian(s).
  • Parents’ consent must be signed and validated by the appropriate authorities (registry officer, police, gendarmerie / embassy or consulate for foreign applicants).
  • Photocopies of both parents’ identification papers (certified accurate by the appropriate authorities).
  • If one or both parents of the applicant are deceased, the appropriate death certificate(s) should be produced.
  • Foreign applicants less than 18 years of age should have all necessary documents translated into French by an approved French translator.
  • If these applicants are no longer under their parents’ custody, they should produce the appropriate certificates.

  • Germany - Austria - Belgium - Denmark - Spain - Estonia - Finland - France - Greece - Hungary - Italy - Latvia - Liechtenstein - Lithuania - Luxembourg - Malta - Netherlands - Poland - Portugal - Czech Republic - Slovakia - Slovenia – Sweden.
  • Countries soon to join the Schengen Area: Romania and Bulgaria. To date, applicants from both these countries still have to produce passports.
  • Associated member countries :  Ireland - Iceland - Norway - the United Kingdom - Switzerland. Applicants from these countries will only be required to produce an identity card.
